The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls for the international community to hold accountable the Russian Federation for its role in the shooting down of MH-17 and increase pressure for the withdrawal of its troops from Ukraine in the wake of the announcement on 24 May 2018 of the findings of the Joint Investigation Team.

The Joint Investigation Team, comprised of authorities from Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine, concluded that the plane was downed by a Russian-made Buk missile, supplied by the country’s 53rd anti-aircraft brigade in Kursk. Specifically, the missile was brought to Ukraine from the Russian Federation, fired from territory controlled by the Russian Federation and Russian Federation-backed terrorists and returned to Russian Federation territory on vehicles that were part of the Russian armed forces.

The military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine on its Eastern territory has claimed the lives of more than 10,000 individuals. The continued daily escalation of violence signals the need for the international community to increase measures to force the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory, and reveal the disinformation being spread by the authorities of the aggressor state.

“The Ukrainian World Congress expresses its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this terrorist act and calls upon the international community to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
