UWC called on Türkiye to continue support of Ukraine

Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Paul Grod addressed a letter to President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to congratulate him on the centennial anniversary of the foundation of the modern Turkish state.

In Türkiye, October 29 is traditionally celebrated as the Republic Day (Cumhuriyet Bayramı) and is the main national holiday. On this day, in 1923, the great founding father of Türkiye Mustafa Kemal Atatürk officially declared that the country was henceforth a secular republic. This year, the nation celebrated 100 years since the Republic’s foundation. Festive celebrations took place all across Türkiye and included the largest official parade in the history of the Turkish navy in the Bosphorus Strait.

“The proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye 100 years ago by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a pivotal event in the history of Turkish people and the whole European continent,” reads the official letter.

UWC President also thanked President Erdoğan for Türkiye’s consistent and continuous support of Ukraine since the start of Russia’s military aggression in 2014 and for the country’s powerful global voice of support for the Crimean Tatar people suffering brutal oppression in the Russian-occupied Crimea.

“The global Ukrainian community is grateful for Türkiye’s strong support and strategic relationship with Ukraine. Your significant and timely political, economic and military support of Ukraine has been critical in the face of Russia’s brutal full-scale military invasion. The partnership between Türkiye and Ukraine is key to the future stability and prosperity of the Black Sea region,” the letter concludes.
