The Ukrainian World Congress and the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations will discuss the processes of decolonization in Ukraine. The dialogue will be held as part of the Decolonization Educational Practices meeting. The event will take place online on July 1 at 15:00 Kyiv time.
Decolonization is the process of completely liberating countries (both culturally and territorially) from the influence of colonizers. “The Russian war against Ukraine prompted a reassessment of values and brought new words both into the everyday use of Ukrainians and the scientific discourses of Eastern European studies. … The fact that independent Ukraine is a post-colonial country was spoken individually by intellectuals and scientists until February 24, 2022,” the dialogue organizers say.
Previously, the term “decolonization” and its understanding were absent on a national scale. “The war prompted Ukrainians to engage in a thorough review of themselves, their history, culture, and way of thinking. Many are reflecting on this in the cultural, artistic and scientific spheres, less so in the educational sphere,” UWC and WFUWO explain.
During the dialogue within the framework of the meeting on Decolonization educational practices, extracurricular experience realized within the framework of the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine National Center from 2016 to 2023 will be presented.
The speaker of the event, Yuliia Kravchenko, head of the laboratory for the development of critical thinking at the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine National Center, Fulbright scholar at Columbia University, candidate of philosophical sciences, designer of educational programs, author, and organizer of short-term schools in philosophy, cultural diplomacy, Ukrainian culture, founder of the Festival of Sixties and dissident movement in the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine National Center. UWC Vice-President Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler will moderate the dialogue.
