The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and prominent French thinkers are pleading with French President Emmanuel Macron to deploy military instructors to Ukraine. Their appeal, addressed to Macron’s administration, was also published in the leading French newspaper, Le Monde.
“France has already made significant strides by hosting and training Ukrainian soldiers on its soil. Now, it is time to take the next step by initiating a mission to train specialists directly in Ukraine,” the letter states.
The authors, among whom is UWC Vice President Volodymyr Kogutyak, caution against giving in to Russian threats of so-called escalation in response to such support.
“This notion becomes meaningless when defending a nation targeted by aggression. The primary objective is to save thousands of civilian lives while avoiding direct French military involvement in combat operations,” they explain.
Deploying French military instructors to Ukraine would accelerate the training of Ukrainian troops and ensure that the programs are closely aligned with the realities of the battlefield.
“The focus would be on key priorities, such as air defense systems and the operation of long-range missiles launched from the ground or from combat aircraft,” the appeal says.
The letter emphasizes that only a decisive defeat of Russia will halt Moscow’s destabilizing actions and curb the aggressive ambitions of its allies.
“President Macron’s proposal to establish a European coalition of military instructors could be a game-changer. This initiative would not only bolster Ukraine but also enhance security and stability across Europe,” the letter says.
