Union of Ukrainians of Romania achieves electoral success in local elections

The Union of Ukrainians of Romania (UUR) achieved significant electoral success in the local elections in Romania held on June 9, the UUR reported. The organization’s representatives in Romanian government structures increased by 25%.

“This is a historic result for us, as the Union of Ukrainians of Romania has never had such a large number of local representatives in eight counties – Arad, Botoșani, Maramureș, Satu Mare, Suceava, Timiș, Caraș-Severin, and for the first time in Tulcea County! The votes received by our candidates motivate us to move forward with enthusiasm and look to the future with confidence and optimism,” the UUR wrote.

The success reflects the Ukrainian community members’ high trust in those who represent and will represent their interests. The elected candidates will hold their positions for four years. “[This also demonstrates] the ability of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania to consistently defend both the interests of Ukrainian communities and the interests of other residents of the counties where Ukrainians live,” the UUR added.

The UUR expressed sincere gratitude to the Ukrainians who voted on June 9 and to the UUR members who “contributed to this result with their commitment, seriousness, determination, and dedication. “We will continue to work towards achieving our goals for 2024-2028: improving the standard and quality of life for Ukrainians in Romania. By uniting, we will build an even stronger community together!” the UUR concluded.
