Ukrainians in the UK to host poetry reading by Marianna Kiyanovska

The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) is hosting a presentation and public poetry reading by Ukrainian poet Marianna Kiyanovska on Dec. 2 at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. The event will also be streamed online.

Tickets for both the live event and the online broadcast are available via the provided link.

Kiyanovska, a celebrated Ukrainian poet, literary scholar, and translator, will read her poems in both Ukrainian and English.

Having written nine books and one novel, as well as translating six volumes of poetry from Belarusian and Polish, Kiyanovksa has been named by Forbes Ukraine as one of the most influential writers in Ukraine today,” AUGB notes.

The poems in her latest collection explore the horrors experienced by the Ukrainian people following Russia’s full-blown invasion in 2022.

Renowned for poetry centred on the destructive impact of war upon civilians, Kiyanovska crafts emotive narratives that capture the harrowing realities of genocide,” AUGB adds.

In 2016, Kiyanovska began working on The Voices of Babyn Yar – a book commemorating the Ukrainian Jews who were victims of the Babyn Yar massacre. This work earned her the Shevchenko National Prize, Ukraine’s most prestigious literary award.

The Polish translation of the book won the European Poet of Freedom Award in 2022.
