Australia’s Ukrainians сreated a template to appeal to the Olympic Committee

The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) has set up a working group to pressure the Australian Olympic Committee, committee sponsors, and sports associations to support the ban of Russian and Belarusian athletes from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Together with the Ukrainian World Congress, representatives of the Ukrainian government, and protest groups worldwide, this initiative is part of a worldwide campaign to pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to halt steps to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as “neutral” participants.

IOC’s decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes is expected this week, on March 28-30.

Although the Australian government has signed a joint statement with 34 other countries expressing severe doubts about the “neutrality” model, the Australian Olympic Committee is following the IOC’s line. The AFUO has written to the Board and the Director General of the Committee but simultaneously proposes to apply additional broad-based pressure against the support of the “neutrality” model.
