The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the unanimous decision on 28 June 2017 by all 28 European Union (EU) Member States to prolong until 31 December 2017 targeted economic sanctions against the Russian Federation linked to the complete implementation of the Minsk agreements.
The sanctions, originally imposed by the EU in July 2014 in response to the illegal occupation by the Russian Federation of Crimea and Sevastopol, and its subsequent invasion of the territories of Eastern Ukraine, target the financial, energy and defence sectors, and include an export ban on arms and goods that can be used for military ends in the Russian Federation.
“The Ukrainian World Congress commends the EU Member States for maintaining a firm position with respect to the territorial integrity of Ukraine and urges increased efforts to pressure the Russian Federation to withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
