Ukrainian World Congress welcomes first UN World Day against Trafficking in Persons

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the first United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July 2014.

The day has been designated to raise awareness around this global issue and to highlight the plight of the millions of women, men and children who are victims of trafficking from all corners of the world, as well as to encourage people to take action against this crime.

An estimated 2.5 million people are trapped in this modern-day slavery. Women, men and children fall into the hands of traffickers both in their own countries and abroad. Every country in the world is affected by human trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.

“Human trafficking is a crime that often goes unnoticed. The Ukrainian World Congress and the UWC International Task Force to Stop Human Trafficking encourage everyone to join the UN’s call to action to give hope to the millions of victims,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
