The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) strongly condemns the deliberate terrorist attacks committed by the occupying forces of the Russian Federation against civilians in residential areas of the Donbas region.
During the night of 17 May 2018, residential areas in the village of Troitske, Luhansk oblast, were targeted by artillery fire decimating an entire family – a 13-year-old boy and his father were killed instantly, the mother died from injuries in hospital, and a son remains injured.
Earlier that same day, Russian Federation forces shelled the core of the city of Svitlodarsk, Donetsk oblast, damaging several residential buildings and the territory of a school with 387 children and 46 staff members in the building.
The heavy artillery being used by the occupying forces blatantly contravenes the Minsk agreements and shows total disdain for human life.
“The Ukrainian World Congress appeals to the international community, including human rights and humanitarian organizations, to increase pressure on the Russian Federation for it to cease violating the Minsk agreements and to support the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission to the occupied territories of Eastern Ukraine to secure the safety of innocent civilians,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
