On 30 January 2014, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij, together with a delegation of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress led by its President Paul Grod, met in Ottawa with the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.

Also participating in the meeting dedicated to the current crisis in Ukraine were Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, Members of Parliament Ted Opitz and James Bezan, and Senator Raynell Andreychuk.

During the meeting, leaders of the Ukrainian diaspora recognized Canada for its principled stance in support of the democratization of Ukraine, including the resolution of Parliament from 27 January 2014. They emphasized to the high-ranking Canadian officials the importance of further actions with respect to Ukraine, such as promoting the processes of democratization and Euro-integration, condemning Russian pressure on Ukraine, supporting civil society, participating in the role of a mediator during the crisis, monitoring of events, providing humanitarian aid to the victims of the EuroMaidan movement and introducing individual sanctions against those who violate human rights.
