On 14 September 2015, a UWC delegation led by its President Eugene Czolij met with Senator for Valencia, Spain and Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt, General Director on Foreign Policy and Multilateral, Global and Security Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain Enrique Mora, Director General of Spaniards abroad and consular and migration issues of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain Cristobal Valdes and Director General of Migration of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security of Spain Aurelio Miras Portugal.
During these meetings the discussions focused on how the international community, including Spain, can effectively support Ukraine in stopping Russian aggression, which threatens peace and stability in Europe and in dealing with the 1.4 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
The UWC President was accompanied by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Spain Serhii Pohoreltsev, First Secretary of Consular Affairs of the Embassy of Ukraine Oleksandr Dzoma, UWC First Vice President and President of the European Congress of Ukrainians Jaroszlava Hartyanyi, UWC Second Vice President and President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations Orysia Sushko, President of the Association “Ukrainian Community in Spain for the Rights, Honor and Dignity of Ukrainians” Yuriy Chopyk and UWC Liaison Officer in EU Maryna Yaroshevych.
“The meetings were constructive and highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine in its defence of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as fundamental European values,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
