On 26 April 2016, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij delivered an address during a commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, including a requiem service, organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Montreal Branch at Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral.
Chornobyl, Ukraine, was the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster on 26 April 1986 which took the lives of several reactor staff and emergency responders, displaced hundreds of thousands of individuals, and affected the long-term health and well-being of millions exposed to the radioactive fallout.
“The Ukrainian World Congress is very grateful to everyone who joined us in prayer and commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy, as well as all those who helped the Ukrainian people overcome the awful consequences of this catastrophe caused by the obsessive exploitation of Ukraine by Moscow with total disregard for human life,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
