Supply chains critical to Ukraine’s defense as UWC global appeal, #UniteWithUkraine raises funds for supplies to Territorial Defenders.
BELGIUM, Brussels – On his mission to Europe to meet with senior Ukrainian and Transatlantic leaders to address the outbreak of Russia’s escalating war in Ukraine, the UWC President, Paul Grod, called on NATO, the EU, and G7 Heads of State this week to provide Ukraine with additional armaments, including surface-to-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles, radars and additional ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance), as well as protective equipment and medical supplies for territorial defense units.
“In my meeting with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Lviv, he expressly appealed to the UWC for support in increasing the delivery of much-needed equipment and supplies to the brave men and women fighting on the front lines all over the country,” said UWC President Paul Grod. “I have since met with officials in Warsaw, London and Brussels to discuss the urgent need for equipment and supplies with NATO, EU and G7 government representatives. Ukraine is fast running out of the weapons it needs and some countries are yet to honour their pledges of arms,” he continued.
Ukraine’s brave fighters are far surpassing western expectations by fighting back the Russian armies’ advance and preventing them from taking key cities. Despite this, President Grod highlighted the importance of continued delivery and fulfilment of promised defence weaponry to Ukraine’s war effort and its reliance on an uninterrupted supply chain.
“Western countries had expected a more limited insurgency but instead have seen a successful military defense and the beginnings of a counterattack. The spirit, determination and bravery of the Ukrainian people have demonstrated that Ukraine will prevail, the question now is how long and at what cost? That is why we are calling on all peace-loving countries around the world to provide the means for Ukrainians to protect their homeland – NOW,” said Grod.
Since the Russians invaded, the UWC has mobilized its global network to “Unite With Ukraine” in a campaign to raise funds and provide helmets, bulletproof vests, first aid kits, medicine, fuel, and other defensive supplies to Ukraine’s Territorial Defense volunteers who are on the frontlines.
The UWC is leading global coordination and logistics for the Ukrainian community and other NGO support efforts and has launched this global appeal, #UniteWithUkraine that enables anyone, anywhere to show their support for the Ukrainian people as they fight for freedom, human rights and democracy.
“The Ukrainian people are standing with unwavering resolve to defend loved ones and their cherished values of freedom, democracy and dignity. To date, we have raised CAD$18 million and procured CAD$14 million in equipment which is currently being delivered to Ukraine. It is an important start to meet these needs but much more is urgently needed,” he explained.
The UWC is calling on anyone who stands for freedom and democracy to join the #UniteWithUkraine campaign and donate today at www.unitewithukraine.com.
