MEDIA RELEASE

Ukrainian World Congress International Election Observation Mission: Administrative resources are not being misused during Presidential Election in Ukraine

As of 18:00 on 25 May 2014 the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) International Election Observation Mission to the Presidential Election in Ukraine notes that the elections are progressing transparently and democratically, and without the misuse of administrative resources, the bribing of voters and multiple voting.

UWC observers recorded a series of infractions in various regions of Ukraine, the most common being:

–          campaigning at the polling stations and outside them;

–          delays in opening the polling stations;

–          confusion in the work of the election commissions;

–          inappropriately sealed ballot boxes;

–          distribution of ballots without the appropriate documentation;

–          obstacles to the work of observers and mass media.

The UWC Mission notes that in cities where mayoral races were being run parallel to the Presidential Election, including the cities of Kyiv, Mykolayiv, Kherson, Odesa, Cherkasy and Sumy, the voting process is considerably slower and long lines are being experienced as voters must obtain several ballots.

At the time of this report, UWC observers have monitored the vote at over 1100 polling stations in 39 Ukrainian cities.

The UWC Mission is the third largest international election observation mission to the early 2014 Presidential Election. The Mission includes 236 international observers from 22 countries who are monitoring the vote in Ukraine and the diaspora. The UWC Mission is headed by United States Federal Judge Bohdan Futey.

The UWC Mission will release its next report at 22:00.

On 26 May 2014 at 9:30 the UWC Mission will hold a press conference at the UNIAN Information Agency to announce the results of its observations.
