On 15 October 2015 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij extended written greetings on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” addressed to its President Dr. Andriy Meleshevych.

The UWC President highlighted that Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is one of the oldest educational institutions in Eastern Europe and the most unique in Ukraine, and its work is closely tied to the establishment and consolidation of Ukrainian statehood and the formation of the people’s national consciousness.

The awareness raising activities of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy have survived the test of time, while its leaders and graduates have always played an important role in Ukraine’s development and the European focus of science and education. The names of many prominent individuals are closely associated with Kyiv‑Mohyla Academy, including Petro Mohyla, Ivan Mazepa, Pylyp Orlyk and Hryhoriy Skovoroda.

It was symbolic that with the rebirth of Ukraine’s independence in 1991 Kyiv-Mohyla Academy not only revived its activity, but consolidated the highest aspirations of a nation for science and education and presented a vision for their contemporary reform.

The UWC Secretary General Stefan Romaniw and the Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Serhiy Kasyanchuk attended the official commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on 15 October 2015 in Kyiv.

“The Ukrainian World Congress highly regards the work of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and pays respect to its builders, including its current President Dr. Andriy Meleshevych,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “We thank the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy for its cooperation with the Ukrainian World Congress, and extend wishes for continued success in the development and consolidation of Ukrainian education and the defense of the interests of Ukraine as an independent, sovereign and territorially integral state.”
