MEDIA RELEASE
Ukrainian World Congress calls upon President Viktor Yanukovych
to immediately release opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko
Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij sent a letter today to President Viktor Yanukovych reiterating the call for an end to selective justice in Ukraine and for the immediate release of former Ukrainian Prime Minister and opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko on the additional grounds of the 30 April 2013 judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Tymoshenko v. Ukraine.
In this judgment the Court decided unanimously that the entire pre-trial detention of the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko was arbitrary and unlawful.
“The Ukrainian World Congress is convinced that the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko would be a positive step toward signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement during the Third Summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius on 28-29 November 2013,” stated Eugene Czolij.
A copy of this letter was sent to high-ranking officials of the international community.
