Ukrainian World Congress and Mission of Ukraine to the EU Panel Discussion: Following the Ukraine-EU Summit

On October 23, 2020, the Ukrainian World Congress and Mission of Ukraine to the EU co-organized a virtual panel discussion entitled, “EU-Ukraine Summit: The Road Ahead”. The conference was moderated by Orysia Lutsevych, Head and Research Fellow, Ukraine Forum, Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House.  

Paul Grod, Ukrainian World Congress President, opened the meeting, stating that UWC, representing Ukraine in 65 countries around the world, is committed to Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. UWC will continue to support Ukraine in further reform processes and to engage with EU partners to make sure Ukraine is on their top agenda.   

Katariná Mathernova, Deputy Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, expressed her satisfaction with the summit results. According to Mathernovathe Ukraine Task Forcewhich she has headed since March this year, is a unique structure, which involves representatives of various sectors of the European Commission. 

“No other country in the world outside the European Union, except Ukraine, has such a Task Force. We are trying to take full advantage of it, together with colleagues from all over the European Commission and from the European External Action Service. We are ready to continue this dialogue,” Mathernova stressed. 

Olha StefanishynaDeputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, asserted that the summit brought new political agreements between the parties, including the AA update. Ukraine and the EU will continue their sectoral cooperation. 

Witold Jan Waszczykowski, Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee, Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, Vice-Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee, Petras Auštrevičius, and Michael Gahler, Members of the European Parliament, and Vadym Halaychuk, Deputy Chairperson of Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration, also took part in this important discussion.
