Ukrainian intelligence targets Russian drone base in Syria

Ukrainian intelligence agents have attacked a Russian military base in Syria, reports Kyiv Post, citing sources. The operation, involving fighters from the “Khimik” group, took place on the southeastern outskirts of Aleppo.

At this base, Russians were engaged in the production and testing of strike drones. Additionally, the occupiers were developing “camouflaged improvised explosive devices,” with explosive materials stored at the site targeted by Ukrainian intelligence special forces.

The Kyiv Post video shows Ukrainian intelligence symbols near the Russian base, followed by an explosion and subsequent detonation at the site. Explosives were planted inside the base beforehand, according to the journalists.

In late July, Ukrainian special forces struck Russian military equipment at the Kuweires airfield east of Aleppo. The invaders were using the airfield for training and dispatching foreign mercenaries to fight against Ukraine.

In June, Ukrainian intelligence attacked Russian checkpoints, strongholds, foot patrols, and military equipment columns on the Golan Heights in Syria.

Since 2015, Russia has deployed thousands of troops in Syria to support President Assad’s regime. Last fall, some troops and equipment were redeployed to Ukraine. However, Russia’s continued presence in Syria has allowed it to establish a network of recruitment centers to enlist Syrian mercenaries for the war in Ukraine.
