Ukrainian hopak in the land of samba – the 30th Ukrainian Night in Paraná

The 30th Ukrainian Night (30a Noite Ucraniana) in the Brazilian municipality of Prudentopolis, Paraná, on Aug. 6 featured a delicious dinner and supreme performance by Veselka, a Ukrainian folk group, President of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation Vitório Sorotiuk reported on Facebook.

Veselka Group President Fernando Demenech, Municipal Mayor Osnei Stadler, and especially warmly welcomed Ukraine’s Military Attaché in Brazil Volodymyr Savchenko addressed the audience of over 1,000, kicking off the event. There were gifts from Bishop Dom Meron Mazur and Vitório Sorotiuk as well as numerous representatives of authorities.

The Ukrainian Brazilian Central Representation (Representaçao Central Ucraniano-Brasileira), a member of the Ukrainian World Congress, is an umbrella organization for Ukrainians in Brazil established in 1985 by a number of Ukrainian organizations operating in the country. The association’s purpose is to represent the Ukrainian community before the government, institutions, and the general public; provide advice and facilitate cooperation in the areas of cultural affairs and social services; and defend the interests of the Ukrainian community by all legal means.
