The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) has published the Message of the Hierarchical Synod of the UGCC in Ukraine on War and Just Peace in print. The work is available in six languages – English, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Spanish.
“This publication, with an edition of 1,000 copies, is in response to numerous requests from around the world for a translation of the message adopted at the 96th session of the Synod, held on February 7-8, 2024, in Lviv,” wrote the UGCC.
According to the UGCC, the book provides an opportunity to reach a global audience and communicate to millions in the Global South about the war in Ukraine and the Church’s stance on it. Translation requests have come from local government bodies, embassies, bishops, and UGCC faithful in many countries worldwide.
“The publication will be distributed among Ukrainian communities worldwide, providing them with spiritual support. The message will also be delivered to embassies in Ukraine and abroad, promoting a better understanding of the UGCC’s position on war and peace within the international community. The terminology used in the message is quite precise, so native-language translation and authentic rendering of the text are particularly important,” said Mitred Archpriest Oleksa Petriv, the Secretary of the Hierarchical Synod of the UGCC in Ukraine.
