An ensemble of Ukrainian folk dance “Prosvita” performed at the 20th Festival of Foreign Communities held in the southernmost city of the world – Ushuaia (Argentina), on 16-17 September.
23 countries were represented at the Festival, which was hosted by the Association of Foreign Communities in Ushuaia, with the support of the Secretariat of Culture and Education of Ushuaia’s municipality.
“We are sincerely grateful to the organizers for the chance to share the diversity of the Ukrainian nation with an audience of thousands and to convey the message of peace and unity of our people,” posted Javier Aponiuk Sawicz, a member of the board of the Congress of Ukrainians of Canada – Toronto branch on his Facebook page.
The Ukrainian cultural society “Prosvita”, formed in 1924, takes its roots from the Ukrainian drama group “Young Community” in Berisso (a center of Ukrainian diaspora in Argentina). The “Prosvita” society has continued to be the main center of Ukrainian cultural life in Argentina for more than 98 years. Various schools, Ukrainian studies courses, art groups and choirs operated within the “Prosvita” cultural society over this time.
