Ukraine’s victory will help settle Transnistria conflict – Sandu

Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia will enable Moldova to settle the conflict in Transnistria, Maia Sandu, President of Moldova, said.

“I repeat once again that the solutions we see are only peaceful. Perhaps, when Ukraine wins this war and returns its territories, a geopolitical opportunity will appear that will allow us to settle the conflict peacefully,” Sandu said.

The problem of Transnistria will be solved gradually “because everything is quite complicated,” explained the President of Moldova. The process of reintegration of the territory should occur so that it does not lead to “further weakening of the Moldovan state and democratic processes,” Sandu added.

The president of Moldova emphasized that the country lives in peace now thanks to the army of Ukraine. “And we also did everything during this time to prevent our country from being drawn into the war, to preserve order and peace in our society, to fight lies,” Sandu concluded.

Transnistria is a territory located in the southeast of Europe, between Ukraine and Moldova. It is a self-proclaimed state that has existed since the collapse of the USSR thanks to the support of the Russian military contingent based in this territory.
