‘Ukraine Square’ to be built in Brazil’s largest Ukrainian community

A public square will be constructed in honor of the Ukrainian people in Cascavel, a Brazilian city in the Paraná state that is home to the largest Ukrainian community whose roots stem to the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Local media reported that the Praça Ucrânia (Ukraine Square) will be located on Brasil Avenue, between Jacarezinho Street and Barão do Rio Branco Avenue.

The open space will hold special significance for more than 460 Ukrainian families in the city who continue to preserve their culture and traditions.

Ukrainian motifs with monuments in the square’s center will honor the cultural heritage of Eastern Europe as part of the square’s design.

Its creation has been a long-awaited dream of the local Ukrainian community.

A building site has already been selected and the project will be funded by the local authorities.

Traditional Ukrainian festivities, including dancing, music, and Ukrainian cuisine will feature during its opening. Such cultural events are held annually by the Ukrainian community in Cascavel for the city’s residents.

As reported earlier, the Ukraine Square in the Brazilian city of Curitiba officially reopened in October after undergoing major renovation.

The Santa Carina and Rio Grande do Sul states also host notable sizes of Ukrainian communities in Brazil.
