Ukraine-born Anna Kysil, 31, is running for a seat in the Germany’s Bundestag legislature in the upcoming elections from the Alliance 90/The Greens party in the Aachen region, the local Ukrainian community there announced.
Kysil moved to Germany in 2015, co-founded the Ukrainer in Aachen e.V. association, and later became a board member in the regional district.
“Young, dynamic, and determined – her journey represents the story of a successful modern European woman. After moving from Ukraine to Germany, she not only found a new life in a foreign country but also maintained a strong connection to her roots,” the community in Aachen said.
Kysil’s goal is to become the voice of the Ukrainian community, supporting integration and inspiring those who have chosen to stay in Germany, helping them navigate the challenging process of adaptation and build a shared future.
“Recognizing the deep ties between Ukraine and Germany, she is dedicated to fostering and strengthening this partnership,” the statement continued.
The Alliance 90/The Greens party in Germany has consistently supported Ukraine in its struggle for independence and territorial integrity during Russia’s full-scale aggression.
They advocate for providing Ukraine with military and humanitarian aid, as well as supporting sanctions against Russia. The Greens also emphasize the importance of Ukraine’s integration into European Union bodies and focus on environmental and sustainable development issues, especially in the context of supporting Ukraine.
“Anna Kysil is a young, dynamic, and determined leader who embodies the spirit of a successful European woman. Her commitment to sustainable development, shared values, and her active involvement in public life make her a strong candidate for the 2025 Bundestag elections. We are proud of her achievements and wish her great success!” said Volodymyr Kogutyak, UWC Vice President for Western Europe and Association of Ukrainians in France (AUF) Vice President, and Chair of the UWC Advocacy Committee.
Ahe German government coalition broke apart on Nov. 6 after Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, which resulted in the coalition losing its majority in the Bundestag.
Early elections are scheduled for Feb. 23, 2025, according to Bloomberg. Chancellor Scholz will present a vote of confidence on Dec. 16 to ensure the elections proceed as planned.
