Ukraine defense minister: robotic units buttress combat brigades

Unmanned robotic units are becoming part and parcel of Ukrainian combat brigades, announced Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

“We’re integrating innovative technologies into the Defense Forces to safeguard our soldiers. The Ministry of Defense is launching a project to scale up the use of unmanned ground systems in the military,” Umerov said.

The new robotic units are designed to carry out various tasks that include taking on assaults, transporting equipment, evacuating wounded soldiers, and for mine removal.

And the primary goal is to save lives and boost combat effectiveness on the battlefield

“The project is based on trials conducted since the summer of 2024 in cooperation with military personnel. The development of robotic units takes into account the battlefield experience of brigades already using these systems,” Umerov added.

Leading Ukrainian informational technology companies are the primary suppliers of these ground robotic systems. Manufacturers have tailored their products to meet the demands of modern warfare by incorporating feedback from active combat units.

“Our goal is to build an army where innovative technologies enable us to tackle the most dangerous tasks while protecting the lives of our defenders,” Umerov added.
