UCCA: US recognition of Crimea as part of Russia would set dangerous precedent

Any U.S. political statements of recognizing Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula as part of Russia would set a dangerous precedent for international law and the territorial integrity of nations, said Andrij Dobriansky, director of communications at the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, in an interview with NewsNation.

Dobriansky’s comments followed recent reports suggesting a potential U.S. peace plan for Ukraine that might include formal recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

As we’ve seen for now almost 100 days, the President [Trump] is unable to get the deal that he promised, that is so simple to make and that he could do,” Dobriansky said. “And he is really approaching desperation with all this talk about Crimea or putting more pressure, which he promised in the Oval Office today. And yet, we’ve seen no pressure on Russia.

He argued that instead of considering such proposals, Washington should focus on effective strategies to find a lasting peace in the war, primarily by increasing pressure on Russia.

Let’s let’s go back to what we already know works: increasing pressure. We know that there’s a bipartisan bill both in the House and in the Senate, in the House […] to ramp up the sanctions immediately against Russia. This would be the pressure, the maximum pressure, that Trump promised at the beginning of his administration,” Dobriansky said.
