The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) held a traditional advocacy event in support of Ukraine, where community leaders met with senators (Republicans and Democrats) and members of the House of Representatives over two days, UCCA reported on social media.
“Among us, some were seasoned advocates, while others participated for the first time,” the UCCA said.
The delegation emphasized the point that 92 percent of Americans support Ukraine during each meeting.
“We advocated for peace through strength, security guarantees, justice for war crimes, and the return of trafficked children and POWs [prisoners of war].” the UCCA said. “We also highlighted the potential geopolitical consequences of [Kremlin ruler Vladimir] Putin going unpunished, the dangers of disinformation, and the fact that Russia is both beatable and weak.”
The use of frozen Russian assets were also discussed with lawmakers and how the outcome of the war would impact U.S. national security and strategic interests.
“We urged support for specific legislation, the creation of new policies, and leveraging influence in peace negotiations,” the UCCA said. “Our message was clear: do not underestimate the Ukrainian people, they withstood the evil empire not due to American weapons, but because they refused to be ruled by the autocratic regimes.”
Called Ukrainian Days, advocacy event took place in Washington on Feb. 24-25.
UCCA also hosted the 17th Annual U.S.-Ukraine Security Dialogue, titled “Taking Measure of Ukraine’s Defense Capabilities & Needs After a Third Year of War,” featuring leading defense experts, on Feb. 26.
