The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) has made a public call to spread the truth about Russia’s full-scale invasion in response to false claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who described President Zelenskyy as a “dictator.”
“Make your voices heard and stand up for the truth about Ukraine and the innocent victims of Russia’s criminal aggression against Ukraine,” the UCCA said.
To counter Trump’s numerous falsehoods, the UCCA published a list of key points that include: Ukraine did not start the war – Russia did; the only dictator in this war is Putin; holding free and fair presidential elections during wartime is difficult if not impossible; and Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains the legitimate president of Ukraine.
Trump on Feb. 19 criticized Zelenskyy and called him a “dictator,” while claiming that a “modestly successful comedian” had supposedly caused the U.S.to spend $350 billion on a war that “couldn’t be won, that never had to start.”
In actuality, Washington has over the course of three years given Kyiv $67 billion worth of weapons and provided $100 billion in overall assistance.
Trump also accused Zelenskyy of failing to hold elections in Ukraine, citing non-existent low approval ratings in Ukrainian polls, despite public opinion survey findings that contradict the statement.
The UCCA will host a traditional Ukrainian Days event in Washington on Feb. 24-25 to meet members of Congress, especially with lawmakers who were elected on Nov. 5.
