UCCA Illinois advocates for Ukraine support ahead of US election

The Illinois division of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), in collaboration with partners from the Ukrainian community, held a Non-Partisan Voter Education Forum on Oct. 20 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, gathering around fifty participants.

The event helped raise awareness about how “supporting Ukraine aligns with American democratic values and the importance of U.S. foreign policy in securing both Ukraine’s and the United States’ futures,” the group’s news release said.

Speakers included Representative Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Co-chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus; Roberta S. Clark, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, Milwaukee Jewish Federation; and Alexander Krapivkin, director of Community Engagement at Nova Ukraine.

We are confident that today’s event inspired and empowered many of those [who]  attended and many great things will come out of  it,” the UCCA said. “[The] room was full of people and press, attendees stayed way past the allocated time to network and share experiences.”

The same group will also host a National Call for Ukraine webinar on Oct. 23 to inform voters about how election turnout can positively impact the future of both the United States and Ukraine.

The webinar will feature panel discussions with leading experts and a question-and-answer session.

Joining the conversation will be John Herbst, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine from 2003 to 2006 and senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center; Congressman Peter Roskam, former Illinois U.S.Representative  serving 6 terms during both republican and democratic administrations , Federal Policy Practice Leader; Rye Barcott, co-founder and CEO of With Honor, a cross-partisan political nonprofit that fights polarization in Congress with principled veteran leadership; Tim (Tymofiy) Mylovanov, President of Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh; and Sasha (Oleksandra) Ustinova, Member of Parliament of Ukraine, an anti-corruption activist, Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Special Commission on Arms Control.
