Tusk: Russia conspires to commit terrorist attacks on international flights

Russia planned terrorist attacks on airlines in more than one country, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Warsaw on Jan. 15, according to the Ukrainian presidential office.

“These acts of sabotage are a form of war that Russia has declared not just on Ukraine but on the entire world. They require a united response,” Tusk said.

He said that Poland plays a pivotal role in countering sabotage and subversive actions, which have occurred “not only on Polish territory.”

Recent intelligence reports confirm that Russia had planned terrorist attacks against airlines in multiple countries.

“Russia planned aerial terror – not only against Poland but also targeting airlines across the globe,” Tusk said.

Russian sabotage activities were also a key topic at a Baltic Sea security summit held in Finland on Jan. 14, attended by state leaders.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing Western security officials, reported that Russia had planned operations to set fire to cargo and passenger planes bound for the United States and Canada.

Explosive devices, which ignited at DHL logistics centers in Germany and Britain, were traced back to Lithuania, where they had been sent by someone using forged personal data.
