Turning Challenges into Opportunities: UWC Leadership Meets with IECDR

On May, 21 UWC leadership and the chairs of the International Institute for Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations of Lviv Polytechnic National University (IECDR) held a virtual strategic planning session. UWC and IECDR are long-term partners and continue to collaborate to support educational, cultural, scientific and other Ukrainian global community’s development projects.

The session was opened by Professor Yuriy Bobalo, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University one of the oldest technical universities in Europe, well-known in Ukraine and abroad. UWC President thanked Professor Bobalo for the University’s continued support to UWC and global Ukrainian communities.  

These planning sessions have already become a good tradition for IECDR and UWC. IECDR Director Iryna Klyuchkovska presented the 2019 projects and initiatives. These projects included some large-scale events: The First International Assembly “Ukrainian Woman in the World: Professionalism, Activism, Tradition”, the International Conference on Civic Activism of Ukrainian Migrants in Europe: UnitedbyNewChallenges, a number of international seminars on Ukrainian language learning and a series of educational webinars in cooperation with IECC (СКВОР) 

UWC leaders from all over the world joined this meeting: First Vice-President Stefan Romaniw, UWC Vice President/Chair of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) Anna Kisil, Regional Vice-Presidents Vira Konyk and Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, UWC Executive Committee Member Jarozslava Hartyanyi, UWC Executive Director Maria Kupriianova, Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Serhiy Kasyanchuk and Yevheniya Petrova UWC Community Relations Coordinator and WFUWO Vice-President. The discussion focused on innovative planning for 2020, a time of extraordinary challenges. 

“Today is a time of unprecedented challenges for the global Ukrainian communities. At the same time, the virtual world has offered us new opportunities. I’m sure we will take full advantage of them to develop our global Ukrainian community ” – mentioned Paul Grod,  UWC President. “Joint UWC and IECDR projects are a great example of how challenges can turn into new opportunities.”
