Preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity is essential for a just resolution in the Russian-Ukrainian war, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told Hurriyet, the oldest English-language news publication in Turkiye.
“A fair resolution of the war must be found within Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” Fidan said.
He also noted that Türkiye continues to explore opportunities for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
“We have special relations with both sides and remain open to listening to them. A friend speaks only the truth, and that is what we do,” Turkiye’s top diplomat said.
While neither Russia nor Ukraine wants to lose, the exhaustion of both sides may lead to a “new situation in 2025,” he added.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized Türkiye for continuing to supply military equipment to Ukraine, according to Hurriyet.
“Turkish weapons are being used by Ukrainian forces to kill Russian soldiers and civilians. Given Türkiye’s claims of being ready to act as a mediator, this situation is surprising,” Lavrov countered.
Thus, the Russian minister said that Türkiye’s actions are contradictory.
