Türkiye has begun building a second multi-purpose warship for the Ukrainian Navy. The keel was laid for the Ada-class corvette during the ceremony in Istanbul.
“Ceremony on the occasion of the laying of the keel of the Ada type ship was held at one of the shipbuilding enterprises in the city of Istanbul,” the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Rear Admiral Andrii Tarasov, as part of the delegation of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, headed by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Volodymyr Havrylov.
The corvette will be equipped with short-range air defense systems, a modern combat control system, navigation, a radar station, a sonar for searching and detecting submarines, and a radio-electronic warfare system.
This is the second corvette that Ukraine will receive from Ankara. Last year in October, Türkiye launched the ship Hetman Ivan Mazepa, the first ship of this class for the Ukrainian Navy.
The Ada type of missile corvette is designed for high-seas patrolling and anti-submarine operations. The project to build two ships for Ukraine began in 2021. The ships are to enter the Navy of the Armed Forces next year.
