The UWC invites to an open lecture on the history of Ukrainian statehood

Approaching the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) invites you to a public lecture by Ukrainian historian, and an officer in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Alf’orov.

His lecture is entitled “The Battle for Independence: The History of Ukrainian Statehood” which will be available in a virtual meeting on Zoom with a live broadcast on UWC’s YouTube channel, happening on Monday, August 19th, at 3:00 PM Kyiv time.

In his lecture Oleksandr Alf’orov will guide participants through the chapters of Ukrainian statehood history — from the times of Kyivan Rus to the present day—sharing his insights about why Ukrainians have such a deep tradition of statehood and a profound sense of freedom.

The discussion will explore the core mission of the Ukrainian state, as well as the myths imposed on Ukrainians and what they are fighting for in the present day. During the second half of the session, participants will have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session.

Registration is mandatory. The lecture will be conducted in Ukrainian.

Oleksandr Alf’orov is an officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a candidate of historical sciences PhD, and a research associate at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He is also a television and radio host. Alf’orov’s historical YouTube channel has over half a million subscribers and is gaining popularity among Ukrainians who have started to take an interest in Ukrainian history.

You can register for the lecture  here.
