Russians loot Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The Russians continue to loot the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), which they occupied in March 2022 and converted into a military facility. The National Resistance Center reported that Eduard Atakishchev, the Russian-appointed deputy director of the seized ZNPP, is helping the military to remove unused equipment from the plant.

“According to local reports, Atakishchev, who was seconded from Rostov, is responsible for signing fictitious agreements to transfer unclaimed property of the plant to the needs of the occupiers, as well as for their placement on the territory,” the statement said.

Atakishchiev himself is constantly moving around surrounded by the military and hardly ever appears in Enerhodar, mostly staying in Moscow. “All of Atakishchev’s activities are subordinated to the national control center of the Russian “defense”. This is another evidence that the Russians have systematically turned ZNPP into a military facility,” the NRC concluded.

In April, Olena Pareniuk, a radiobiologist and senior researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Safety Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, warned that the Russians could trigger a global catastrophe if they restart the ZNPP.
