Russians drop a bomb on nursing home for the elderly in Sumy

On September 19, the Russians attacked a retirement home for the elderly in Sumy with guided bombs, Sumy Regional Military Administration reported. One woman was killed, and 14 others were injured.

According to current information, there were nearly 300 people in the building – over 200 patients and 60 staff members. … Russia could not have been unaware that this nursing home for the elderly is not a military base, not a military target. In just this one day alone – so far – Russian forces have already used nearly 90 guided aerial bombs targeting our cities and Ukrainian positions,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his daily address.

During the evacuation, some elderly residents were forced to lie directly on the ground – 87 patients at the retirement home are mobility-impaired. Some of the injured from the attack are in serious condition, reported the Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh.

“Everything was fine until the Russians came,” said Vitalii Anokhin, a patient who had lived in the retirement home for six years, as reported by the Sumy Debates.

“All the windows are completely blown out; we went from the first floor to the top floor, it’s impossible to stay there at all. The enemy is hitting people who have nothing to do with the war; they are just sick individuals,” said Acting Mayor Artem Kobzar.

The main impact was on the upper floors of the facility. The building is partially destroyed. Law enforcement has begun a preliminary investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, Sumy Regional Military Administration added.

Russians attack Sumy – a city in northern Ukraine with a population of over 250,000 – nearly daily, destroying critical and civilian infrastructure.
