Russians ban koliadky and vertep in occupied territories

Russian authorities in the occupied territories of Ukraine have banned koliadky [carols], vertep [traditional Ukrainian folk theater], and even the mention of Saint Nicholas at educational institutions, according to the National Resistance Center (NRC).

“Preschools and educational establishments in the temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine have been instructed to prohibit any reference to Saint Nicholas,” the statement reads.

The occupiers have also held “preventive” talks with children to discredit Santa Claus and other fairy-tale characters from Western cultures.

Additionally, a complete ban on caroling and nativity plays has been imposed. The NRC states that the Russians are “systematically erasing Ukrainian traditions with intense hostility.”

As reported earlier, Russia is establishing Russification centers in the occupied territories and forcing Ukrainian children to pledge allegiance to Russia.
