“Running for a Hero”: Ukrainians in Greece continue tradition to honor fallen defenders

The Ukrainian Community in Greece joined the annual tradition of honoring fallen defenders for the first time with the “Running for a Hero” race. The event took place on September 1 in Athens, as reported by the community leader, Halyna Maslyuk.

“The Ukrainian partnership (the Association ‘Ukrainian-Greek Thought’ and the Cultural and Educational Center ‘Berehynia’) is joining the initiative,” Maslyuk wrote.

Participants ran distances of 2, 5, and 10 kilometers. “I was touched by the people who found a way to participate despite the heat and lack of endurance (to be honest, most of us lacked the strength without proper preparation), but everyone made an effort because it was so important for themselves, in memory of so many loved ones, relatives, famous, talented, and courageous patriots of our multinational Ukraine!” wrote Maslyuk.

From now on, Ukrainians in Athens will join the race annually. “We remember each one! We honor our warriors! We help in any way we can all those who stand firm, defending our land against internal and external enemies, of which Ukraine has never been in short supply. But everything has its time!” the community leader concluded.
