During the fifth meeting of allied countries at Ramstein air base in Germany, representatives of more than fifty countries discussed what they can do to improve Ukraine’s defense and security in the war with russia. The USA announced a strategy of long-term support, NATO proposed a “winter package”, Germany promised mine clearance training, and Norway pledged 160 missiles.
The former ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, Valery Chaly, believes that it is not worth waiting for the details of the negotiations right away. In a comment to Suspilne, he said: “There will be no discussion of tanks and aviation there. But I don’t think we will hear it right away.”
How the country’s defense and industrial bases can provide Ukraine is planned to be discussed at an additional meeting to be convened by NATO and the USA in a few weeks, the head of the Pentagon said after the talks.
“The war in Ukraine is approaching a pivotal moment where we see that the Russian offensive in Donbas has stalled. We see that the Ukrainians have been able to fight back, to strike back and regain some territory,” Jens Stoltenberg told the Associated Press on the sidelines of the meeting.
