NGL.media, together with YouControl, created the first real estate database and map of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (part of the Russian Orthodox Church) in Ukraine.
“Nearly half of Ukrainians support a complete ban on the UOC MP; on the other hand, only less than 7% believe this church should operate without any restrictions. At the same time, almost 60% support depriving the UOC MP of property in state or communal ownership,” the journalists explain.
However, the absence of a legal entity in the UOC MP complicates the procedure. After all, “instead, there are separate parishes, dioceses and so on, in total about 10,000 legal entities. And all of them should be sued for a ban on their activities.”
It would be easier to seize state or communal property owned by the UOC MP, NGL.media adds. All data in the database comes from state registers as of May 2023.
The investigators established that the UOC MP has real estate in every oblast of Ukraine. Most of them are in Zakarpattia, Donetsk, Kyiv, Odesa and Rivne. At the same time, the lowest is in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Ternopil, as well as in Kyiv and Crimea.
