Donetsk collaborators damaged and stole a monument to Vasyl Slipak, a world-famous opera singer who died defending Ukrainian Donbas on June 29, 2016. The memorial was set up near Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast by Ukrainian servicemen and volunteers.
Vasyl Slipak was born in 1974 in Lviv. He had a unique countertenor voice. In 1997, he graduated from the Lysenko Music Academy in Lviv and was invited to the Paris Opera. He was the Ukrainian heart of Paris, promoted Ukrainian culture, and was adored by opera fans.
When Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014, he gave up his opera soloist career and went to fight for Ukraine, taking the nom de guerre “Mif” (Myth). He was killed with a machine gun in his hands by a russian sniper.
The orcs may destroy monuments but they will never wipe out our memory and break our spirit. Ukraine will take back all of its territories and rebuild whatever these barbarians have destroyed, including monuments to the Heroes of Ukraine. And russia will pay for everything it has done – like the sniper who killed Slipak paid for it with his own life in two years.
In Luhanske, #Donetsk region, RU thugs destroyed and stole a monument commemorating Vasyl Slipak, a famous 🇺🇦 and 🇫🇷 opera singer who died here defending eastern UA in 2016. Ruskies will pay for insulting UA heroes, killing UA people and spoiling UA land very soon! pic.twitter.com/lc0ZPS0vfS
