LVIV – Prince Harry visited western Ukraine’s biggest city on April 10 for an unannounced trip, where he toured a clinic dedicated to treating injured Ukrainian defenders, The Telegraph reports.
“Prince Harry is the second member of the royal family to visit Ukraine since the war broke out in 2022 after Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, travelled there last year,” the article reads.
He visited the Superhumans center, a facility that provides treatment and rehabilitation to injured soldiers and civilians. It offers free prosthetics, surgeries, and psychological support.
“The visit also included a stop in the operating room, where a complex hearing restoration surgery was being performed on one of the veterans,” the Superhumans center reported.
Prince Harry’s visit was arranged by Olga Rudneva, executive director of the Superhumans Center. He was accompanied by four war veterans, all participants in the Invictus Games, a sporting event for wounded soldiers that the prince founded in 2014.
This trip is part of Prince Harry’s ongoing efforts to support wounded veterans, according to his representative.
“It was a huge honor and privilege to come here with the Invictus delegation, with some of our athletes and participants from the UK over the past 10 years,” Prince Harry said, as quoted by the center’s founder, Andrii Stavnitser.
The prince also met with Natalia Kalmykova, Ukraine’s Minister for Veterans Affairs, who presented him with several traditional Ukrainian dolls, an Easter basket, and an embroidered shirt from a veteran-owned business, BBC reports.
“Prince Harry’s visit to Ukraine is not only a personal gesture of support, but also a significant symbol of international solidarity with Ukrainian veterans. His sincere engagement serves as a powerful reminder that courage and strength of spirit matter not only on the battlefield but also in the aftermath of war,” said Kalmykova.
