President of Moldova: “We are protected by the Ukrainian army rather than neutrality”

Moldova is considering revising its neutrality and joining a military bloc, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said last week, according to Obozrevatel.

“Moldova’s neutrality is enshrined in the Constitution. This is the choice of citizens, and we cannot abandon neutrality. Another thing is that, in the current situation, neutrality does not protect us. Now we are protected not by neutrality but by the Ukrainian army, which keeps the Russian army far from our borders,” Sandu said.

According to her, Moldova sees that Russia has started aggression against Ukraine despite its neutral status.

The head of state praised Ukraine for resisting the aggressor country and called on the citizens of Moldova to unite in support of her country’s aspiration to join the European Union.

At the beginning of February, Ukraine transferred its intelligence data to the neighboring country to warn Chisinau about aggressive Russian plans for the state. After that, the changes Moldovan government was changed, with pro-Western economist Dorin Recean taking over the prime minister’s office.
