The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe called Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. In addition, the Wagner private military company was identified as a terrorist organization. This was reported by a member of the Ukrainian delegation in PACE and a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Yevheniia Kravchuk.
“The actions of the Wagner Group on behalf of the Russian government can be rightly characterized as terrorist (emphasizing that the President of the Russian Federation personally admitted that the Wagner Group was “fully financed” by the state),” the final document of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting says.
The Parliamentary Assembly called on the OSCE member states to take measures against the Wagner Group and related structures to declare them terrorist organizations. In addition, it is important to strengthen international norms that provide for Russia’s responsibility as a sponsoring state, the parliamentarians added.
“For the first time, this wording has been fixed in an official document of an international organization! … I hope that this decision will become a catalyst for the recognition of the aggressor state as a sponsor of terrorism not only in the USA, but also in the whole world. After all, terrorism should not be left out of attention and fair punishment,” Kravchuk said.
Previously, in October 2022, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe became the first organization to recognize Russia as a terrorist state.
