The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) was honored in the HM The King’s Birthday Honours List 2024. The AUGB was recognized for its dedication to supporting the Ukrainian community and refugees and for its extensive volunteer efforts within the community, as reported by the AUGB.
Fedir Kurlak, Chief Executive of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to the Ukrainian community. Hannah Beaton-Hawryluk, Chair, AUGB Edinburgh, was also awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to Ukrainians in Scotland.
Roman Bodnarec, Former Finance Director of the AUGB and longstanding volunteer, received the British Empire Medal.
Among other esteemed Ukrainians in Great Britain, Orysia Lutsevych was also honored. The Head of Ukraine programme at Chatham House was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to international relations.
On June 17, a parade was held in London to celebrate King Charles III’s “summer” birthday. The country has a tradition of celebrating the Monarch’s birthday twice: on the actual date in November and in the summer when the weather is most favorable for spectacular mass events.
On May 21, the AUGB representatives attended an official party in the Royal Garden at Buckingham Palace.
