Oldest, largest Ukrainian women’s organization in US calls for full restoration of aid to Ukraine

The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA), founded in 1925, is calling on the U.S. administration to reverse its decision and bring back military aid to Ukraine that was suspended this week.

We implore Congress to act publicly and decisively to support Ukraine and restore military aid, humanitarian aid and intelligence sharing to this embattled ally of the United States,” the New York-based organization said in a statement.

The organization warns that this decision could undermine political norms, international relations, and alliances that have safeguarded U.S. security and upheld global stability since World War II – the bloodiest conflict on the European continent in the 20th century.

Unilaterally and abruptly ending military aid to Ukraine will not only have a devastating impact on Ukraine but it erodes the reputation of the United States and destroys the faith that our allies have had in the United States for over 80 years,” the statement reads.

Abandoning Ukraine “makes the United States look weak and untrustworthy”, emboldening its adversaries – Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China – at America’s own expense.

We cannot stress enough how disastrous a path this is not only for Ukraine but for U.S. security,” the organization warns.

The statement also reminds Congress of its duty to uphold the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution and to hold the president accountable for honoring international commitments and enforcing enacted laws.

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a halt to all military aid to Ukraine – assistance that had already been approved by Congress on a bipartisan level and pledged to Ukraine on behalf of the American people by former President Joe Biden – on March 3.
