October 14 – Ukraine’s Defenders Day, Intercession of the Theotokos, 80th anniversary of UPA
October 14, 2022, will mark 80 years since the creation of the first combat units of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which took up arms to fight for the state independence of Ukraine against the Nazi and communist occupation regimes.
This day was not chosen by chance to honor the defenders of Ukraine, because October 14 is the Christian holiday of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God, and in 1999 it was also established as Ukrainian Cossacks Day.
Thus, it is quite logical that on this day the ancient heroic past of Ukraine meets its heroic present.
