No lasting peace in Ukraine without Ukrainian and European involvement

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) emphasizes that for any peace negotiations aiming to end Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine to be legitimate, they must unequivocally include both Ukraine and the European Union (EU), of which Ukraine is set to become a member.

We call on US President Donald Trump to uphold the principle of “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.” This has been the cornerstone of the global democratic community’s stance as Ukraine battles Russian aggression. Not only is Ukraine the direct victim, but it also stands as the frontline defender of democracy against an authoritarian aggressor. Ukraine’s active role in peace talks is non-negotiable.

The UWC also supports the European leaders’ stance that Europe must play a central role in any future discussions on Ukraine. We echo their position: “Ukraine should be provided with robust security guarantees. A just and lasting peace in Ukraine is fundamental for strong transatlantic security.”

We urge the Trump administration to ensure that Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence are fully respected. Decisions about Ukraine’s future must involve the Ukrainian government and EU institutions. No powerful nation has the right to dictate another country’s destiny. Only through unity and mutual respect can we end Russia’s aggression and secure peace and stability in Ukraine and Europe.

President Putin understands only the language of strength. Appeasing the dictator or forcing Ukraine into unfavorable concessions will embolden Russia and its allies, making them believe they’ve triumphed over the transatlantic community. Such actions would lead to global instability and the emergence of new military conflicts.

Ukraine’s resilience is not just a testament to its people’s spirit but a bulwark against the erosion of democratic values worldwide. As the frontline defender against authoritarianism, Ukraine’s struggle underscores the importance of a united, unwavering stance. We must recognize that a just and enduring peace in Ukraine is not only vital for the region but essential for global stability and the preservation of democratic principles.
