On 26 December 2017, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) issued a commemorative coin valued at 5 hryvnia dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) that was officially presented at the Money Museum on 28 December 2017.
During the presentation of this coin, Head of the NBU Office for Numismatic Products and Marketing Tamara Loshmanova stated: “The high goal of the work of the Ukrainian World Congress is to further on the planet democratic principles, the defence of human rights, support for the independence, territorial integrity, national identity and economic development of Ukraine – the spiritual homeland of Ukrainians living beyond its borders. Therefore, the National Bank has recognized the work of the Ukrainian World Congress by minting a commemorative coin in honor of its half-century anniversary.”
The front of this commemorative coin displays on the background of a stylized depiction of Earth a stylized embroidered tree of life, while the reverse with a mirrored background displays a stylized bound sheaf of wheat symbolizing the unifying and consolidating work of the UWC.
The designers of this coin are Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Haruk and Serhii Haruk, and Vitalii Andrianov who was the technical designer.
During the official presentation, on behalf of the UWC Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Serhiy Kasyanchuk thanked the NBU, and particularly its Acting Governor Yakiv Smoliy and the designers of the commemorative coin for their contribution to the release of this commemorative coin, and recognized the role of Chair of the UWC Audit Committee Alexander Neprel in realizing this project on behalf of the UWC. Deputy Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Volodymyr Kistianyk also attended this event.
The UWC purchased 2,000 commemorative coins for distribution in Ukrainian communities throughout the world.
